A once dramatic form of worship has developed into routine in the Shaker community…until a new Sister arrives to upset the harmony. A rumination of the nature of God, goodness, and grace.
A religious community is changed when a non-believer has an ecstatic experience. A once dramatic form of worship has by now developed into routine. The arrival of Fanny upsets the harmony; the Sisters suspect her to be a "winter Shaker," one who suddenly converts when life gets too hard on the farm. Fanny sees angels in the meadow, and soon all the young women are receiving spiritual "gifts", completely upsetting the community.
“This play presents familiar human conflicts and philosophical meditations on faith, reason, and creativity in a compelling and unexpectedly accessible way.” – NY Theatre
