Season 17 Sneak-A-Peek!
We're delighted to announce that Burnt Thicket Theatre's original production of the international hit Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan, with Jonny Donahoe, will open our 2018-19 Season, October 16-21, 2018. The winsome Jenna-Lee Hyde's performance will draw audiences in to this astonishingly funny comedy about depression. It's a story that will change people's lives, from the director and company that produced the Canadian tour of SHE HAS A NAME.
Burnt Thicket Theatre tells stories that change people’s lives. Since 2007, we've brought awareness to human issues, leading audiences & artists to live more engaged lives for the common good. Though we relocated to Saskatoon from Calgary in 2017, our past productions in southern Alberta include We Are the Body, Solo Joe, She Has a Name, Twinkle and Hockey Dad: A Play In 3 Periods.
Fire Exit Theatre exists to create conversations around faith; what you believe and don’t believe about God and death and life and all that happens in between. We believe that everyone is on a spiritual journey, whether they know it or not. We believe that life is hard and God is good and that choosing to live in that tension creates the best stories.
We want to hear your stories around this theme.
Fire Exit Theatre gets Charity Status!
We are so excited to announce that after 13 years of creating this unique brand of theatre in Calgary – WE ARE A CHARITY!
We have worked hard to tell great stories, to build an environment for artists to create, to encourage conversation and to be sustainable arts organization that will continue to plan & dream.
As we look into the future we dare to dream of things like hosting symposiums on faith and art, or inviting renowned artists and thinkers to Calgary to engage with our audience, or helping our own artists actually make a living as an artist.
We want Fire Exit to be known as the place where you’d want to create, where you can explore your relationship with your God, and where you’re guaranteed to leave the theatre just a little bit different than when you went in.
We cannot do this alone. And furthermore, we don’t want to. We’re so much better together!
So....if you've never made a donation...there's no better time!

Fire Exit Theatre’s home has a new name!
The Epcor Centre for the Arts is now Arts Commons.
The arts are more than music, dance, theatre and performance arts. There are continually expanding ways of conceiving, developing, and delivering ideas that create new forms of artistic expression. In this pure, altruistic sense, the arts demonstrate the boundless creativity humans possess and the inventive ways they find to express themselves. We demonstrate our brand promise in our programming, our partnerships, and in our openness to, and serious consideration of, feedback and input from our community.
Arts Commons is an inspirational gathering place for all Calgarians and visitors alike. We are a space, both physical and metaphorical, that stimulates senses, triggers emotions, challenges assumptions, starts conversations, and opens minds.
